We are the only mammals that seem to have an expectation that our babies should sleep right next to us, which is strange to me. It's the safest place for them, unless you are asking, oh I don't know, a crib manufacturer?!
To those critics, I say this:
How to silence silly people? You kill 'em with cute.
It's such a shame that babies have become such an industry, and the companies have to shove their noses in, making parents second guess their natural instincts. I quite happily coslept with my Imp. If I had listened to all of the naysayers, she wouldn't be currently singing up in her bedroom at 3 1/2, because I would have lost her at 4 months from her reflux. My natural instincts woke me up...that wouldn't have happened if she had been in a crib.

This entry was posted while I was in labor with my new (and first!) little one who arrived the next day. I didn't know it then, but after trying to let her sleep in a bassinet beside the bed for about a week, my husband and I followed our instincts and naturally became co-sleepers with our daughter. It's only been two weeks into co-sleeping but we can imagine our nights any other way. :) She sleeps so well, too, for an infant! It's sad, however, that we can't really tell our friends and family about our habit, as such a thing is generally looked down upon.
ReplyDeleteI wanted to thank you for this post, as it makes me feel so very confident in our parenting path. I enjoy reading your blog as a new pagan parent. Please continue the amazing work! :)
